Day 1: Welcome to Rovaniemi
Arrival: Upon your arrival at Rovaniemi Airport, look for your personal driver in the arrivals hall. They will be holding a sign with your name.
Transfer: Enjoy a smooth transfer to the Arctic City Hotel, located right in the city center.
Free Time: Settle in and enjoy your first evening in the Arctic. We recommend walking along the river to see the Midnight Sun.
Day 2: Meet the Reindeers
The Experience: Today you will meet the true icon of Lapland: the reindeer. Your guide will accompany you and a small group to one of the most traditional reindeer farms in Lapland. The reindeer herder family lives just outside Rovaniemi on the enchanting shores of a peaceful lake. Surrounded by the farm’s stunning scenery, you will learn about the reindeer directly from the herders, who will show you how an authentic local farm operates.
Day 3: Arctic Wildlife Safari
Wildlife Park: After breakfast, we depart for Ranua Wildlife Park (approx. 1 hour drive). Walk through the forest on wooden boardwalks to see Polar Bears, brown bears, wolves, and moose.
At the wildlife park, you can follow the 2.5-kilometer wooden boardwalks through the forest, allowing you to see Arctic animals in one place. This is a rare opportunity to encounter local animals that reside in Lapland and other parts of the Arctic. You may spot polar bears, brown bears, birds of prey, owls, wild boars, musk oxen, otters, Arctic foxes, wolves, wild reindeers, wolverines, moose, and many more! At the end of the tour, you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the restaurant before returning to Rovaniemi with a deeper understanding of Arctic wildlife and a mind full of unique memories.
Lunch: Enjoy a buffet lunch at the park before heading back to Rovaniemi.
Free Evening: Relax in the city or book an optional sauna experience.
Day 4: Korouoma Canyon Hike
Hiking Trip: Today we explore the stunning Korouoma Canyon, a natural fracture valley millions of years old.
The Trail: Korouoma is a 30-kilometer-long valley, reaching depths of up to 130 meters, located 110 kilometers southeast of Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking landscapes year-round, featuring cliffs, rapids, and waterfalls. This nature reserve is also home to rare species and is an excellent area for hikers. In spring and summer, Korouoma transforms into a green oasis of silence where you can fully recharge your energy. As you traverse the canyon, your guide will keep an eye out for local flora and fauna, teaching you about the surrounding nature. Refreshments and typical Finnish grilled snacks will be served around an open fire to keep your spirit of adventure alive.
Day 5: Salmon Soup Workshop and Local Culture
Mastering “Lohikeitto”: A Culinary Workshop
Finnish Salmon Soup (Lohikeitto) is widely considered the “diamond” of Nordic cuisine. While it is a staple of simple home cooking, perfecting the creamy broth and tender salmon requires the right touch. During this program, our guide will teach you how to select the best ingredients and prepare the soup like a local. After the cooking session, we will dine together and savor the authentic flavors you have created.
Local culture: afterwards, you will continue exploring Lappish culture with a visit to Rovaniemi’s local museums, such as Arktikum and Korundi. Arktikum is dedicated to Arctic nature, the local lifestyle, and the indigenous Sámi culture. Korundi is a fascinating art center hosting temporary exhibitions of contemporary art by local artists.
Day 6: Day trip to Aavasaksa & Sweden
Day Trip: Today we travel West to Aavasaksa region & Sweden
Aavasaksa, listed as one of Finland’s National Landscapes, is famous for its panoramic views overlooking both Finnish and Swedish territories. Emperor Alexander II of Russia visited the site in 1876. During this excursion, you will visit the Imperial Hunting Lodge (Keisarinmaja) at the top of the hill, which is used today as a café. Afterwards, you will visit the Swedish village of Övertorneå. One of the main attractions here is the stunning wooden church, one of the oldest of its kind in all of Sweden.
Day 7: Experience Finnish Sauna
The Ultimate Local Ritual: Wood-Burning Sauna
No trip to Finland is complete without experiencing the sauna. We transfer you away to a hidden gem located on the picturesque riverbank, a favorite spot among locals. Unlike electric saunas, this traditional wood-burning stove provides a soft, humid heat that smells faintly of birch and smoke. Feel the authentic wellness ritual: sweat out your stress in the heat, then step outside to breathe the fresh Arctic air. For the full experience, take a dip in the cool river waters – the contrast is incredibly invigorating and leaves you feeling reborn.
Day 8: Departure
Departure: Enjoy your final breakfast in Rovaniemi.
Transfer: At the agreed time, your driver will meet you in the hotel reception to transfer you comfortably back to Rovaniemi Airport for your flight home.
